Baseball-reference.com ("B-Ref")is the ultimate source for those baseball fans fascinated by the numerical side of the game, as well as a wonderful example of how superb use of the resources of information technology and the Internet can create a resource that could never exist in a similar way using other types of media. A splendid side benefit over the last few years has been the presence, on B-ref's front page,of an entertaining group blog using B-ref data to talk baseball. The blog was not a cutting edge sabermetric site, and was not meant to be, but it was a couple of steps up from routine fan-ranting that fills much of the baseball blogosphere. A set of clever, talented writers and a lively community of commenters kept things hopping.
Sean Forman, the remarkable founder and chief at B-ref, announced today that the blog was coming to an end. I've set up Sixth Inning Stretch as a spot for former B-ref blog followers to carry on the conversation if they wish. Just let me know in the comments here if you'd like to be a poster here. It'll be all-volunteer and multiple posters are welcome. Very informal for the moment, let's see how it goes.
